The weather in Cyprus is mostly sunny all year round, with some exceptions. We have mild winters, sunny autumns, hot summers and warm springs.
The island has one of the mildest winters in the Mediterranean…
…and that makes it the best holiday island in Europe.
Specifically…
…we have mild winter from December to February…
Christmas is also another wonderful season to visit our island. There are Christmas decorations everywhere…in the streets, shops, houses, malls, etc. It’s the season of love, the season of giving and we spend it with sun, snow in the mountains and sometimes rain too :-).
…we have dry summers from May to October (yes from May to October), mild autumn in November and lovely picturesque spring in March and April. Mid of May the temperature goes higher, the sun starts shinning and it gets warmer and warmer.
In addition to that, in September and October the sea is still warm for swimming…
…and that’s why we included the months of September and October under the summer season.
Besides the tourist summer season usually starts about mid May and ends about mid October. Having said that, please note that Cyprus is a year round island and we get to have visitors all the time.
As you can see autumn and spring are short seasons and summer is a long one. Time to do some sunbathing and swimming at the beach.

The Mediterranean climate of Cyprus makes it the best holiday island in Europe.
Cyprus is one of the warmest islands in Europe with more than 150 sunny days per year. It’s the perfect getaway for your holiday either in summer, winter, autumn or spring.
The summer season is here.
High temperatures (up to 42⁰ Celsius – June, July and August) and cloudless skies describe the summer season.
Usually the weather in Cyprus is warm during May, September and October and really hot during June, July and August. So our summer extends from May to October.
The tourist period starts in May. It usually starts to get warm so we don’t consider May exactly as a spring month, although you will find that everything is bloomed. It’s part of the summer season and usually everything is booked from May to October. So if you don’t want to miss the best accommodation, cheap flights, cheap car hire and tours on the island plan ahead.
Summer is ideal for sunbathing, swimming, doing water sports, sightseeing, food and wine touring and more.
Also, there are Cypriots who work during June, July and August, especially those in the tourist industry, and they take their holiday either in September or in October. In our opinion, these are the best months to swim in the Mediterranean sea with the beaches being still warm and less crowded.
November is our autumn season.
In November the weather in Cyprus is quite warm but it gets chilly in the evenings. Well to us Cypriots it is chilly, but visitors might not feel the same, especially if they are coming from cold countries.
As you can see the autumn season is a short season since in September and October the weather in Cyprus is still warm, hence part of our summer season.
Although, to us Cypriots, our winter is in December, January and February, many visitors consider the winter season of Cyprus as autumn season, because it’s so mild. We get to have some rain, and sometimes snow in Troodos mountains (it’s ski time :-) ), but also lots of sunny days.
It might get cold and windy sometimes but the sun comes out after a while.
In addition, during winter time we might get fog – which is rare. If fog occurs, usually it does during the early hours in the morning or late in the evening.
In March and April we have the spring season. Everything blooms on the island and the countryside is so beautiful. Time to take some pictures.
It might get chilly at nights and rain during the day (not everyday though) but at the end the sun comes out. If you love nature, then March and April are the best months to visit the island. It’s nature at its best.
Generally, the weather on the island is sunny almost throughout the year with chilly evenings during November, December, January and February. In summer the weather in Cyprus is quite dry with long days and cloudless skies with sunshine.
Autumn and spring are short seasons on the island with the countryside being at its best.
