Important Note: The road sign for the exit towards Aphrodite’s Rock says Petra tou Romiou – not Aphrodite’s Rock or Rock of the Greek.
So be careful when driving on the island…you don’t want to miss the road sign saying Petra tou Romiou otherwise you will miss the exit and the views – Petra tou Romiou, Rock of Aphrodite, Rock of the Greek/Roman = the same place.
According to the legend, Petra tou Romiou (Rock of Aphrodite – Paphos) is the mythical birthplace of the Ancient Greek Goddess of Love and Beauty…Aphrodite. Romans were calling her Venus.
Legend says that Aphrodite was born of the sea foam here. She rose from the waves and was escorted on a shell to the beach.
A myth says that if you swim around the rock 3 times it will bring you good luck, fertility, eternal youth and beauty and true love.
This rock (Aphrodite’s Rock-Petra tou Romiou) along with other giant rock formations are located along the coastline of the Paphos district; a beautiful area-coastline that is worth your time to visit. This coastline is one of the most beautiful, breathtaking coastlines on the island!
