Omodos village has existed since the Frankish period and it’s located in the beautiful district of Limassol in Cyprus, at an altitude of 800 metres. Specifically it’s located on the Troodos mountain range in the wonderful area of Krasohoria.
Krasohoria (Greek) means “Wine Villages”.
This wine producing village is very traditional, picturesque, peaceful and charming. It might be a small village but it has a lot to offer to its visitors…as long as you have time to explore it.
For example, its narrow streets, stone houses and cobbled Square, its shops selling traditional local products, its monastery of Holy Cross, its restaurants and taverns serving delicious local food, its wineries and the locals’ hospitality will leave you in awe!...
…and that’s why Omodos is perfect for agrotourism!
What a wonderful village, what a splendid experience!
Omodos is famous for its wine, “arkatena” bread (local product), Zivania spirit and handmade narrow-knit lacing. It’s also famous for its cobbled Square, the monastery of Holy Cross, the quaint houses (old stone-built houses) and its narrow streets.
Another reason we visit Omodos, it’s the fresh local food served in their lovely restaurants and taverns. Delicious! (Yes, we are foodies :-) ).
In addition, every 14th of September the village has one of the biggest religious fairs on the island dedicated to the Holy Cross. The fair usually lasts 2-3 days. Vendors gather from around the island in the wonderful village square in front of the monastery of Holy Cross to sell their traditional products.
If you are on the island in September, you might want to visit Omodos on the 14th of September. Many locals visit the monastery that day. Visitors alike.
However, if you wish to experience tranquility while visiting Omodos, you might want to avoid visiting it on that day (14th September) – otherwise you will experience the “buzz” of the fair with lots of pilgrims arriving to the monastery.
Overall, Omodos is a peaceful village where you can have a wonderful time!
If you prefer a less crowded season then visit us during May, September or October (avoid the 14th of September where the fair takes place – it usually lasts 2-3 days).
Rent a car to visit this pretty village, it’s well worth it!
