About Mackenzie, Larnaca

Location

Mackenzie beach area is located south of Larnaca city center and very close to Larnaca airport (about 9 minutes away by car).

Also, it’s a short drive from Finikoudes – another wonderful beach area with an amazing, shallow, sandy, family-friendly beach, a strip of restaurants, taverns, bars, pubs, cafes and lounges and a beautiful promenade lined with palm trees.

The Area

In Mackenzie (Makenzy) beach area you will find the beach, the strip of restaurants, taverns, beach bars, cafes and lounges, nearby attractions and accommodation overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, just minutes away from the beach.

During daytime, the atmosphere is relaxed and family-oriented with locals and tourists enjoying the sun and the sea. Some beach bars might play music but it’s not that loud as during the evening.

During the evening, the beach area transforms into a lively hotspot, with lights, loud music and a buzzing crowd. The beach bars transform into clubs! If that’s your thing, then visit Mackenzie during the evening for a vibrant night out and you won’t regret it, especially if you like dancing! :-)

Also, the area has flat pathways and well-maintained facilities which makes it suitable for people with mobility needs.

Best Time to Visit

During the summer months of June, July and August, the Mackenzie area is lively, full of locals and tourists enjoying the sun, the sea, the food and their drinks. Nightlife is also very vibrant during the summer months.

So if you like “buzz” where many people gather together for a fun day out, then you might want to visit Mackenzie during the summer months.

On the other hand, during the other seasons, Mackenzie is more quiet. It’s ideal for lunch or dinner and nightlife – unless you are a winter swimmer in which case you will most certainly enjoy a dip in the blue Mediterranean Sea. :-)

Tips for the Visitors

During the summer months, if you want to secure a good spot on the beach, arrive early especially during the weekends. The locals who work during the summer months, usually they gather together in Mackenzie during the weekends or during the weekdays after work hours.

So go early to the beach in order to find available umbrellas and sunbeds and a good spot.

In addition, another tip is to have with you a bottle of water, sun cream, sunglasses and a hat. You will need them!

In summer the temperature can go over 40 Celsius which makes it burning hot to be under the sun. So take care of yourself by applying sun cream on your body and drinking water to stay hydrated.

Another tip is to watch the sunrise and sunset. The colors of the Mediterranean Sea during those hours are majestic!

Regarding the accommodation and car rental, book early on! We can’t stress this enough! :-) Mackenzie is a well known area in Cyprus and many locals and tourists alike visit it during the summer. So plan ahead and book your accommodation and rental car (if you are planning to rent one) early on.

Swimming, Sunbathing and Doing Water Sports at Makenzy (Mackenzie) Beach

Makenzy beach is a blue flag, sandy, family-friendly beach with shallow waters ideal for swimming and sunbathing.

It’s also an organized beach with sunbeds and umbrellas (available for rent) and nearby showers and restrooms.

Lifeguards are on duty during the high season.

Parasailing, jet skiing, snorkeling and kayaking are some of the water activities you can have in Mackenzie.

Mackenzie Strip and Nightlife

How to Get to Mackenzie, Larnaca

The Mackenzie beach area is only about 9 minutes away by car from the largest legal airport of the island…Larnaca International Airport (LCA).

(If you haven’t booked your flight yet then check this out…flights to Cyprus).

You can rent a car, book a taxi or take a bus to get to Mackenzie.

Either way you will get there in no time as the Larnaca airport is very close to the area.

If you are renting a car follow the road signs to Larnaca city center. At some point you will see a road sign indicating to turn towards Makenzy beach. Don’t forget that Makenzy is also spelled Mackenzie, Mckenzie and Makenzi.

Getting Around

The strip of restaurants, beach bars, cafes, taverns and lounges and most of the accommodation are all within walking distance from the beach of Mackenzie. So you can get around on foot.

However, if you wish to visit Finikoudes you can take the bus, hire a taxi or rent a car.
