Akamas Peninsula National Park is one of our favorite places in the Paphos district! We love exploring Akamas and the adventure that comes with it!
Whenever we visit Paphos and we are with our 4x4 car we also visit Akamas peninsula…it’s a must for us!
We love the spectacular views, the wonderful unspoiled crystal clear blue beaches, the beautiful villages of Akamas, the nature trails with the stunning views, the rare flora and fauna and all that comes with Akamas! It’s a Gem in Paphos and in Cyprus in general!
If you are planning to rent a car to visit Akamas peninsula make sure you rent a 4x4. The dirt road in Akamas is rocky and bumpy! So a 4x4 is absolutely needed for your adventure in this awesome peninsula!
The other option is to rent a quad/buggy.

The peninsula was named after Akamas, son of Theseus, a hero of the Trojan War and founder of the city-kingdom of Soloi in Cyprus.
It covers about 230 square km and is located on the western tip of the island.
The Akamas peninsula has a rich and rare flora and fauna. It’s part of the NATURA 2000 European Network of protected areas as a unique biotope.
There are 46 endemic plants which do not exist anywhere else in the world; and 3 endemic species that breed in Akamas and nowhere else in the world! Isn’t that fascinating?! :-)

Visit the Baths and its Botanical Garden.
Legend says that the Baths of Aphrodite is where the Ancient Greek Goddess of Love and Beauty was bathing. It’s a fresh water grotto shaded by a wild fig tree. Time to take some pictures :-).
Visit Akamas Peninsula from the Baths of Aphrodite. Please note that you will need a 4x4 car and very good driving skills because the dirt road in Akamas is very rocky and bumpy.

Please note that there are restaurants that are closed for the winter season. So check before you go if the restaurant you wish to visit is open. It will save you the trouble…and money if you are hiring a taxi or getting a bus.
The nearest airport to Akamas is Paphos (Pafos) International Airport (PFO). Check out flights to Cyprus for further information.
For pre-booking your airport transfer take a look at Paphos airport transfers. In that way you won’t have to wait in the queue for a taxi outside the airport.
To explore the Peninsula of Akamas you will need a 4x4 car – taxis and buses don’t go there. The dirt road of Akamas is rocky and bumpy. You need to have very good driving skills to drive in the peninsula.

If a rental car is not within your budget, then consider booking a boat cruise to Blue Lagoon or a Jeep safari to explore Akamas by land (see Paphos tours for more information).
As it was mentioned above, buses and taxis don’t go to the dirt road of the peninsula. However, they do go to the villages and the surrounding areas of Akamas.
The best way to explore the peninsula though is to rent a 4x4 car (Cyprus car rentals) or book a Jeep Safari to Akamas or a boat cruise to Blue Lagoon (see Paphos tour for further information).
